Swine breeding was started at Kabiuk in 1879 when Prince Alexander Battenberg imported the first pigs of the Mid Yorkshire and Bernimir breeds. German White Edelschwein and Large White were imported between 1918 and 1939. The selection and breeding efforts between 1939 and 1951 have led to the recognition of the Bulgarian Large White swine. Later, blood from the Polish Big White swine was injected to reduce bacon thickness. |
